MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Wagers 2 A special "Thank You" to our NWCA Programs & Projects Volunteers

If you have attended any of our chapter meetings since this spring you may know we have a special group of volunteer coaches working together in teams on various projects to help grow and sustain the coaching industry.

They identified four areas of focus designed to market and promote coaching in the Northwest that our chapter serves. The volunteers decide on the projects that are important and of interest to them in concert with the NWCA leadership team and actively pursue their own projects.

The four main areas are:
Development - informal training, group learning, mentor ship, etc.
Outreach - community service, coaching clinics etc.
Presence - building strategic relationships, corporate awareness etc.
Exposure - media relations etc.

Using the first letter of each group name they use the acronym DOPE to describe their activities, (get it?)

Regular updates are provided at the monthly meetings and there are a number of fantastic projects under way. If you would like to be involved please let us know.

I want to thank the coaches that are giving of their time to help promote the industry we all work in and love. At the risk of overlooking someone I want to recognize: Robyn Hall, Joe Lyons, Sue Melone, Bob Renggli, Feroshia Knight, Peter Ayers, Julie Moraga and Carol Hoeck. Good job folks!

In a future newsletter I will ask these groups to go into more detail about their specific projects.
Hope to see everyone at our July meeting.

Best regards,
Dave Wagers
NWCA 2007 President

"Introductions Do Matter - YES" Part II

A resounding YES is the result of our recent email poll and brief group discussion June 12th, on the importance of individual intros at monthly meetings. Some key values that were articulated are as follows:

  • Visual / Audio intro-connections spark urgency to meet fellow coaches
  • Coaching specialty is very important, and also placed on name tags
  • Emotional "bonding" of engaging a fellow coach can often be as meaningful a "take away" as the presentation itself.
  • Reciprocal value - find someone and someone finds us via intros
  • The intros often spark a reason to proactively go meet someone
  • Intros help a coach "stand out" among 50+ other coaches
  • Take a moment: Add YOUR "value propositions" to the list

After the meeting June 12th, two different coaches suggested that we experiment with having intros immediately following the 5:45 to 6:45 PM Pre- session, (just prior to the half hour network period) instead of inside the main meeting. What do you think?

Early Bird registration for the ICF Annual Conference in Long Beach, CA ends in August 2007. The ICF Conference is Oct 31-Nov 3, 2007. As your NWCA President in 2008, I will be attending this important global coach conference to soak up all the trends and tidbits of coaching wisdom and techniques I possibly can to help energize and lead us in the coming year. Many of you have gone to the world-wide ICF Conference in the past. Expand your coaching awareness and global connections while mutually enriching the profession of coaching via this ICF conference. Remember, it may be some years again before it is held so close to home on our very own West Coast.

Bob Renggli
Pres Elect 2008

PRE-MEETING WORKSHOP (5:45 p.m.)

Sacred Space: Creating a coaching call structure that consistently delivers beyond-your-best coaching every time!

Presenter: Ann Strong, founder of ThrivingCoaches.com

What makes a coaching call different than chatting with a friend? If your clients can't tell the difference, they won't use your services for more than a month or two! In this program, you will learn how to create a sacred space in which clients consistently receive extremely high value every time you meet. Learn why so few coaches use this structure and why you won't ever want to coach without it again! This structure works equally well for experienced and new coaches, from the most conservative corporate environment to the most tender life coaching situation. Deceptively simple and amazingly effective.

Take aways

  1. Using a coaching call prep form for greatest value to your client
  2. Opening every coaching call with clear intention.
  3. Allowing greatest flow for call (including coaching demo for troubled spots in the call) for consistent results.
  4. Closing call for most lasting impact.
  5. Demo coaching and experiential exercise to experience (both as coach and client) this wonderful learning.
