MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bob Renggli Core Competency #5: Active Listening
In the art, science and practice of professional coaching, like a skilled surgeon probing, poking, pondering and processing feedback from ever evolving technological tools, so to the effective coach with the scalpel of active listening delves deeper into a client's agenda to bring healing and clarity. It is by cutting away non-essential from essential matter, that a listening coach can see more deeply and with surgical penetration into that which troubles a client and leads in partnership toward the light of new awareness and truth.
In the beginning stages of one's coaching practice, one must employ the science of listening most carefully. As listening skills develop, the flow and art of coaching takes on a more masterful level of efficiency and value to one's clients. It is this journey into the heart of active listening, once genuine presence has been established, is that which we'll be focusing on at the May Chapter meeting. Please come join us and sharpen your listening tools together with us.
The April 21st Dave Buck Coachville Tour at the Scottish came in two parts: Coaching Business / Wealth Creation and Power of Play to free oneself from the Tyranny of Work. It was enthusiastically attended by some 50 coaches and visitors. Dave gave a nice history of his early years in coaching. In 1996, while working with Thomas Leonard, ICF was started and the origins of Coachville Center became a reality. Be a 'PLAYER', learn your unique moves and let your energy and confidence literally "ooze" forth as the world is starving for your message and modeling. Thanks to the many Coachville graduates in our Portland community who helped advertise, register and make this event a huge success for professional coaching.
Finally, I wish to call your attention to the wonderful work that Feroshia Knight is leading in the Strategic Planning Committee. Stay tuned for updates soon. The Education Committee, led by Susan McKay and Deborah Reedal Munhoz, is shedding new light and clarity on a very essential element of our Chapter services to our membership. A big THANK YOU to both committees and their fine leadership for the advancement of coaching.
Bob Renggli
NWCA 2008 President
MESSAGE FROM THE PROGRAMS TEAM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you been to a NWCA meeting lately?
Do you need Continuing Coaching Education Units (CCEU's)?<

We invite each member as well as visitors to come and participate in our monthly meetings. Your input, questions and shared wisdom are invaluable to all who are in the room. Joe Lyons and I have been working on your behalf to bring relevant, useful professional development programming to each meeting. The Pre-meeting, which begins at 5:45 is focused on the "The Business of Coaching." Each presentation for 2008 will highlight an aspect of how coaching works as a business. Presentations have encompassed a wide variety of topics, which reflect the how coaching can be used in the business world. The speakers have focused on aspects of building an individual practice and our upcoming speaker, Summer Miller, will discuss being a corporate coach. Later in the year, we will have speakers that address both legal and insurance needs of those in individual practices or companies devoted to coaching.

After the pre-meeting, we are offering a formal networking time that allows all attendees to meet and talk with one another. During this time, we are offering a "New Member Orientation" that helps both new and old members learn how to take advantage of their NWCA membership. Ronnie Noize has been leading the New Orientation group and is dedicated to each new member receiving relevant information regarding membership. New SIG groups have also been developed and include a Corporate Coaching, Media, "Get Clients Now" and Leadership Development SIGS.

Another focal point for 2008 is the ICF's Core Competencies. At the NWCA meeting, one competency is being highlighted each month. Board members Susan McKay and Deborah Reedal Munhoz are presenting a Core Competency at the beginning of the Main Meeting. The theme for the 2008 year has been to "let our core competencies shine" and Susan and Deborah present material that highlights powerful aspects of these vital principles.

Our Main Meeting, which begins at 7:30pm, is dedicated to the "Art of Coaching." The presentations highlight important aspects of being an effective coach. The Main Meeting presentations are meant to emphasize skills sets that demonstrate effective coaching. The past several presentations have highlighted tools, theories and assessments that develop core competencies including, Coaching Presence, Creating Awareness and Designing Actions. Continuing Coaching Education Units (CCEU's) are being offered to those attending the main meeting. Evaluations are providing to attendees at the end of every meeting. The evaluations of the past several meetings include a "10 out of 10" for both presentation and content. Members and attendees have expressed interest and appreciation for all presentations that have been provided.

Joe and I welcome your input and ideas! If you know of a speaker that would benefit the NWCA membership and bring new ideas and fresh inspiration to our meetings, please contact us. We want each meeting to be useful and stretch our skills and abilities in new directions. Please contact either Joe Lyons joseph@josephlyons.com or Susan Schwarz susan.schwarz@comcast.net with your input and ideas.

Sincerely,
Programs Team:
Joe Lyons
Susan Schwarz

MESSAGE FROM THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Reasons for Continuing Education Credits:
Have you ever noticed that the training you just received benefits your next clients in a just in time fashion? As coaches, our role is to provide the support that enhances the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has to meet their coaching partnership goals. Pursuing continual education and training that has met the standards for ICF excellence ensures constant effectiveness with your clients so that you can impact the world the way that you and your client want.
Effective with the March NWCA meeting, the Programs Team continues this month by taking the steps required to obtain Continuing Coaching Education Units (CCEU's) for the main meeting presentation. The focus of the main meeting is the "Art of Coaching" and the presentations are designed to enhance the professional development of both new and experienced coaches.
As part of the self regulating industry the ICF has set standards for continuing education units for coaches. The requirements to renew a PCC or MCC credential are documented completion of 40 Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEUs) in the three years since original certification or the coaches last renewal. A minimum of 24 of the required 40 CCEUs must directly relate to the ICF Core Competencies. For more information on this topic, please visit www.coachfederation.org
Your Education Committee,
Susan McKay, MCC
Deborah Reedal Munhoz, PCC
